NXplorers is an essential part of Oman Shell’s commitment towards supporting the Sultanate’s energy transition and national economic diversification goals as outlined in its Oman Vision 2040. Shell NXplorers uniquely contributes to the implementation of this national plan, as it creates relevant and purposeful ways to give young people the tools that they need to shape and create positive change.
The celebration day kicked off with student teams each presenting their ideas to a panel of expert judges. This was followed by an impressive student showcase as key stakeholders and invited guests met with students to learn more about their NXplorers experiences and wonderful ideas.
Guests included H.E. Dr. Bakhit bin Ahmed Al Mahri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation for Higher Education, and VIP guests, H.E. Dr. Abdullah Ambosaidi, Undersecretary of Education, Ministry of Education and Walid Hadi, Oman Country Chair.
The highlight of the day was a live ceremony where invited VIPs, students, teachers, partners, mentors and Shell staff celebrated the best NXplorers projects as well as the teachers who mentored the student teams.
Everyone particularly enjoyed a panel discussion with Oman Shell’s Country Chairman and students. Together, they revealed how the programme has taught them new skills and given them the confidence that they need to innovate and collaborate. The students also disclosed how they now all feel much more responsible and empowered to go on and drive sustainable change.
“The Shell NXplorers programme has helped me develop a wide range of skills and has enabled me to think and approach problem solving differently. I have been introduced to complex and creative thinking skills and have been equipped with the tools required to apply them in order to create positive change in my community.”
